Before you retune
Which E string do I change for Drop D?
The thickest string: string 6. Lower it from E2 to D2. The thin E string stays at E4.
Does this page listen to my guitar?
No. It plays reference tones only. For microphone-based tuning, open Tune Right on your iPhone or iPad.
Am I tuning up or down?
The instructions above start from standard guitar tuning. For these three tunings, the changed strings are lowered. Starting somewhere else requires a different adjustment. Check the current note and the target before turning a tuning peg; never keep tightening against unexpected resistance.
Can I send someone this tuning?
Choose a tuning, then copy the page address. The link will reopen that selection. It shares this reference page; it does not automatically install or configure the iOS app.
